Excitement is mounting in anticipation of the newest event in the UK shooting calendar.
The organisers are putting the final touches to the inaugural Northern Shooting Show, which promises to be the ‘must visit’ destination for the committed shooting enthusiast, as well as those new to the sport. Affordable entry for both visitors and exhibitors combine to make it the number 1 venue for all things shooting related. The Show is taking place on the 7th and 8th of May at The Great Yorkshire Showground, near Harrogate in Yorkshire; this beautiful showground is in the heart of ‘God’s Own County’ and easily accessible from all parts of the UK, as it’s just off the M1 near Scotch Corner.

The fantastic venue is situated within a gently sloping, grassed showground and has two main, purpose built halls, housing firearms and shotguns in Hall 1 and Airguns in Hall 2. It’s not just these 2 halls however, as there are a host of activities happening around the ground, such as in the dedicated Airsoft Experience and Bushcraft areas. Gunmakers Hall 1 The ‘FMJ Zone’ in Hall 1 will be full of specialist companies, so there will be something for all show goers; shooters of ‘tactical’ style rifles, deer stalkers, vermin controllers and game shooters are all well catered for. Anglo Italian Arms will be displaying the range of Fabarm and Caesar Guerinni shotguns that they import.

Gilsan Sports will have a great selection of new and second hand shotguns, rifles and airguns. Blaser & Mauser will have their latest innovative Shotguns & rifles including the F16 shotgun with it’s extremely low profile semi – round action 7 the very popular R8 rifle. Viking Arms will have the Ruger Precision Rifle, one of the company’s most innovative new fullbore rifles, on display and you’ll be able to see why this rifle is so sought after. Those who admire the classic English shotgun can see high end, yet affordable examples on the Longthorne Gunmaker’s stand. Caledonian Classic Arms will have their range of UK specification ‘Manually Actuated Release System’ rifles, K22 LBRs and also the new VZ61 rifles.
Parabellum Consulting import HERA straight pull AR15 style rifles, as well as a range of accessories to ‘trick up’ standard rifles. Westlake Engineering produce state of the art nitro conversions of black powder revolvers, as well as the multi-calibre Matchmaster target pistol. Never been done at a shooting show before, ZEISS UK will have an elevated platform over looking a target zone area, put their optics to the true test. The non-live target zone allows you to see just how bright and accurate their optics really are. And ‘try before you buy’ from one of many of their preferred dealers. This is just a selection of companies who will be in attendance and there really is something for everyone.
Associations, such as The Deer Society, BASC, CPSA, , NSRA, NGO, SACS and the Institute Of Clayshooting Instructors will also be in attendance, to give advice and guidance to shooters.The ‘clubhouse’ is a dedicated meeting point set-aside for club, forum & society members to meet up with friends, making for a very sociable day out.

Airgun Central. Hall 2 This hall will house all the top names in airgunning, so all those who prefer air and CO2 powered guns have all the top names under one roof. Air Arms will have the recently launched Galahad ‘sport pup’, which features an innovative cocking lever on the left hand side of the forend, as well as their full range of sporting and target rifles. Sure Shot Airguns import the Aeron range of hunting and target rifles and they are certainly great value for money, with a host of features normally only found on far more expensive brands.

Essex-based Pneumatic Ballistics has recently branched out from making aftermarket magazines and accessories and they now produce their own pre charged air rifle, it’s great to see a new company entering the field. Daystate produce top of the range PCPs, such as the electronically controlled Pulsar but they’ve recently added a new model to their roster, with the introduction of the mechanical actioned bullpup, the Renegade. MTC will be showcasing their re-vamped range of telescopic sights, including the Viper and Mamba Pro optics. Deben/Hawke will also have many new models of optic on display, as well as their latest lamping kits.
Target-Air will have their vast range of targets on their stand and they’ll have something for everyone, be they back garden ‘plinkers’, or clubs buying targets for FT or HFT competitions. For those in need of advice, the National Smallbore Rifle Association and specialist airgun magazines are bound to be of assistance. The ATEO will be running a ‘have a go range’ where you can try the manufacturers latest offerings and the Bear Grylls and Gamo Junior Range are also bound to be popular. It’s also possible to have a go at field archery, clay pigeon and 22 rimfire shooting. The ‘clubhouse’ is a dedicated meeting point set-aside for club, forum & society members to meet up with friends, making for a very sociable day out.
The Show is pleased to be hosting a round of the ‘HFT Masters’ Hunter Field Target championships and this exciting outdoor sport combines range estimation, positional shooting and pinpoint accuracy. Visitors can even try their hand at HFT shooting on the Saturday, aided by some of the top shots. The competition takes place on the Sunday and people can spectate (from a safe distance) and see how it’s done when the pressure’s on.

Artisans & Classics Pavilion The Gun Mart sponsored Artisans & Classics Pavilion will house representatives from the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) UK Cartridge Club, The Lovat Society and The Muzzle Loaders Association Of Great Britain. By Sword and Musket will have a range of classic bolt action military rifle and Tim Owen will be demonstrating the art of hand engraving. Stock making is an art form in itself and Roman Lepinois will be demonstrating how traditional stock making is done.

It’s clear that there will be something for everyone at The Northern Shooting Show but there’s much, much more! The Gamekeeping and Gundog Hall, Bushcraft Area and the dedicated Airsoft Experience area are just a few of the other attractions that show goers will be able to visit. Add to that all the accessory, clothing and general shooting equipment companies that will be in attendance and you’ve got a great day out for all the family! Great food will be available, so there’s no need to go hungry, why not try Yapas (Yorkshire Tapas!) All manner of demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day, so there will be plenty to see and do, even when taking a break from the main halls.
