British Coastal Weapons vs German Coastal Weapons

The distance across the English Channel at the point between Dover and Calais is some 29 miles, making it the shortest route for any would-be invader to take when attacking Britain. Defending this corner of England had always been left to artillery. However, in WWII, technology and science entered the equation. The author gives a very brief historical recap before diving headlong into his chosen subject, which he handles very well and gives a considered account from both sides. All aspects involved are dealt with from radar to railway networks, logistics, and the weapons themselves. It’s surprising to learn where the guns came from and the age of some. A lot of evidence of the German gun sites remains visible in France, but in England, the story is different. Still, the author has tracked down lots of evidence and the history he tells is fascinating. A ‘must read’ for anyone interested in artillery.
