James Brand Elko

The Elko is a UK legal carry slip joint knife, so perfect for us. They make it in a few different colour configurations. I, being a big fan of orange knives, of course went for the Terracotta version. They also do black, green, blue and plain steel handles, as well as a black blade with a black handle.

The knife closed is 66mm long and 107mm open; the 43mm drop point blade is made from 12c27 Sandvik stainless steel. It has an 11mm long, 2mm wide thumb nick cum slot to open the blade, so it’s ambidextrous. It also has a satisfying 90-degree hold position, to aid safe opening and closing, a good design feature on any slip joint knife. The Elko has a real ‘Gentleman’s knife’ feel to it, you can tell this is a quality item. At a mere 26-grams, it is very light weight indeed. The blade is sharp and real world carry useful.

For a minimalist design, the Elko has no equal, a true knife for the modern age. I think it’s set to become an icon in knife design. Buy one, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
